I had begun this painting in 2018 when I met up with Jean LeGassick and we camped at the Lone Pine Campground with views of the Inyo Mountains to the east and Mt Whitney to the West. Both views were equally appealing, but I loved the color of the mountains and the "pink moment" as the cool cast shadows of the Whitney side eventually rise up and were cast on the pink Inyo mountains. The painting had some good qualities and I had worked on it in the studio, but at the last minute decided to take it to see if I could be inspired and finish it. I had to downplay the foreground because I wanted the eye to go back to the warm pink glow on the mountain.
