I was inspired to see Mt Whitney, highest peak in California. I've painted it before and it has a somewhat strange and regular look to it from this vantage point in the Alabama Hills below, and the surrounding peaks appear as teeth or "needles". It is also set back and dwarfed by the big bold Lone Pine Peak in front of it and closer. It could be this time of year when the snow melt becomes less interesting and the patterns more frenetic, but I had to try to "make it work" atmospherically which involved adding some of the dark closer rocks into the lower picture plane for contrast.
