This painting was a challenge because of the intense Western backlight and the shadows side of Mt Tom. The sky needed to be lighter than the snow in shadow and it was a subtle shift, made with the varied blues. This painting was also done at our campsite on Buttermilk Rd outside of Bishop, CA. There were paintable scenes in every direction-my perfect setup: camping with Jean LeGassick, great food and wine, and conversation.
