I was fascinated by this huge boulder in the shadows, reflecting the cool light of the sky, its shape and the foreground of saltbush. The light changed rapidly and I had to finish this in the studio when I got home, and now it's one of my favorite paintings, being slightly abstract in quality and a pleasing array of shapes and colors. Also I was able to work in the cool shadows in a more solid way.
